One: Jesus preached to the crowds, “Repent, change your life. God’s kingdom is near.” And they followed him, hung on his every word.
Many: We hear Jesus call us, “Repent, change your life.”
One: Jesus walked up to Simon and Andrew on the beach and James and John, sitting in the boat, and he said, “Come, follow me and you will catch people instead of fish.” They dropped their nets and went.
Many: We hear Jesus call us, “Come, follow me, and bring others to follow as well.”
One: Jesus preached about the Kingdom of God. He showed the people the kingdom by healing their diseases and easing their pain.
Many: That’s the way God works, not with fancy words but with actions and love.
All: Change your life, Jesus said.

Almighty God, the Giver of Life, you know us better than we know ourselves. We’re here before you now, believers and doubters alike, confessing that we cling to our old ways. We think we can mouth the words of change, but keep some allegiance for ourselves. Search us, O God, and rinse our hearts clean by the healing power of your Holy Spirit. We long to live each day for you, serving each other, sharing the kingdom of God through the grace of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.
