You’re on the road
But you’ve got no destination
You’re in the mud
In the maze of her imagination

You love this town
Even if that doesn’t ring true
You’ve been all over
And it’s been all over you

It’s a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away
It’s a beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Teach me
I know I’m not a hopeless case

Cover Poem: From “Beautiful Day,” U2.

Prelude: Pride (In the Name of Love)
Where the Streets Have No Name

Welcome & Call to Worship
One: O God, worker of wonders, you made this day for joy and gladness. Let the risen Lord abide with us this evening, opening the scriptures to us and breaking bread in our midst.
Many: Set our hearts aflame, and open our eyes,
One: That we may see in his sufferings all that the prophets foretold,
Many: And recognize him at this table as the Christ, now entered into his glory,
All: who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Opening Song: Mysterious Ways
Opening Prayer for The Word
Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 25:1-10
Discussion
Call to Confession: Vertigo
Confession
Almighty God, in raising Jesus from the grave, you shattered the power of sin and death. We confess that we remain captive to doubt and fear, bound by the ways that lead to death. We overlook the poor and the hungry, and pass by those who mourn; we are deaf to the cries of the oppressed, and indifferent to calls for peace. Forgive us, God of mercy. Help us to trust your power to change our lives and make us new, that we may know the joy of life abundant given in Jesus Christ, the risen Lord. Amen.

Message: We didn’t expect it
Response Litany
One: Jesus the anointed one, after his resurrection appeared to his disciples;
Many: They didn’t recognize him, they were afraid to believe what hardly seemed it could be true.
One: Jesus the resurrected one was patient and loving and certain.
Many: He set their hearts aflame and opened their eyes.
One: He showed them his wounds; he ate with them.
Many: He helped them understand through scripture.
One: Jesus is present tonight in the breaking of bread.
All: We pray that our eyes of faith may be opened and that we will feel the renewing power of the Holy Spirit so we may follow wherever Christ leads.

One: It is truly right and our greatest joy to give you thanks and praise, O God our creator…
…and with all the faithful of every time and place, who forever sing to the glory of your name:
